About the EPA Portable Alert System
The Portable Alert System, also called Mobile Alert System (EMA), allows a town, an industrial site or a campsite to broadcast an alert in the streets, district by district. It consists of a siren, a beacon, a loudspeaker and a control box with microphone.
Why an EPA?
- Towns: the French Municipal Safeguard Plan requires the ability to alert residents at any time, in addition to fixed sirens.
- Campsites in risk areas: alerting occupants is part of their safety obligations.
Set up in minutes
The loudspeaker and beacon sit on the roof thanks to their magnetic base, and the kit plugs into the cigarette lighter (10 to 30 V, 12 V and 24 V vehicles). No modification of the vehicle is needed.
Recorded messages
Up to three messages can be stored on the micro SD card: evacuation, shelter in place, flooding, fire, industrial risk, weather alert, area closure… The microphone also allows live announcements (public address).
Good to know
Audible range depends on ambient noise and the layout of the area, not only on the siren’s 112 dB. The use of blue lights and certain tones is regulated: purchase does not authorise use. The unit switches off automatically after about 3 hours of inactivity.

Questions about the EPA Portable Alert System
Which version should a town choose?
Towns usually choose the amber beacon with the SNA tone (French national alert signal). Blue versions are reserved for authorised services.
Do I need to drill the vehicle?
No: the loudspeaker and beacon are held by magnets and power comes from the cigarette lighter.
